Filtering out the Spam from your Hotmail account.
|
Here's the scoop on the new Hotmail story, about them giving out your info... http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/business_technology/technology_news/software_news.html?s=articles/20020520/hotmail_policy_
Hotmail has a couple of different options for screening out the Spam.
The first and easiest is to turn on the Junk Mail setting.
First lets look at the four settings labeled Off,
Low, High, and Exclusive.
Off means that no filter will be applied.
Low will only filter the most obvious of Junk Mail and most messages will
be delivered to your Inbox.
High will send most of the Spam to the Junk Mail folder. It may send some
mail that is not Junk to the Junk Mail folder. The proper way to use this filter
would be to make sure to add any new "valid" mail contacts to your
HotMail address book. Its easy, when you receive a message from someone that
should always be delivered to the Inbox, open the message and press the
"Save Address(es)" button on the top left. Verify the quickame and
press OK. You can add to this with the "Safe List". in the safe list
you can add a single address or all of the mail that comes from a dot.com. For
example, if you get a lot of mail from yourwork.com, you could add yourwork.com
to the safe list and all mail that has yourwork.com at the end will go to the
Inbox.
Exclusive will zap every message that is not in your address book or your safe list. Use this setting if you have been meticulous about maintaining the address book and safe list. Also note: if you use the exclusive setting you will need to put your own email address in the address book so that you can receive reminders and notices.
This is a very simple step but it is pretty
generic. HotMail recommends that you check the "Junk Mail" folder
periodically to see if real mail is going there.
